County seeks volunteer for Wolf Depredation Compensation and Finance Assistance Committee
Deschutes County is accepting applications for one open position on the Wolf Depredation Compensation and Financial Assistance Committee. The volunteer position is for a member of the public who supports wolf conservation or coexistence with wolves. Applications will be accepted through May 4.
The committee makes recommendations to the Deschutes County Board of Commissioners on matters tied to the state’s Wolf Depredation Compensation and Financial Assistance Grant Program. The Oregon Legislature created the program in 2011, and it is managed by the Oregon Department of Agriculture. Through the program, the state provides grants to counties to support local wolf depredation compensation programs.
The committee’s work includes recommending procedures and funding related to:
- Claims for livestock or working dog losses tied to wolf depredation
- Requests for financial help for livestock management or nonlethal deterrence
- Distribution of grant funds
Wolf Depredation Compensation and Financial Assistance Committee members serve two-year terms. The committee typically meets quarterly, or more often if needed. Meeting dates, times and locations will be determined as needed.
Community members interested in applying for this volunteer position should submit an application and a letter of interest. This letter should explain why you are interested in serving as a representative of wolf conservation or coexistence and describe relevant background or experience. To apply, visit deschutes.org/jobs. Applications will be accepted through Monday, May 4, 2026.
